Places steeped in history
A visit to the Musée Curie is stirring and poignant in many ways. Firstly, it takes you to the very places where the famous Curie family worked. Pierre and Marie Curie, then their daughter Irène and her husband Frédéric Joliot-Curie won an astonishing five Nobel Prizes, including two for Marie in two different disciplines. During your visit, you can enter her study, which has been preserved in superb condition, and her chemistry laboratory. You can also get some fresh air in the little garden that Marie created herself and where she liked to relax...
The history of radioactivity and its applications
The Musée Curie looks back on the greatest discoveries of this remarkable couple, including radium and radioactivity. Bringing together historical objects from the original laboratory, archival documents pertaining to the Curie family as well as numerous explanatory panels about radium and the impact of these discoveries and their applications in medicine, the route is both educational and entertaining. The permanent displays are accompanied by temporary exhibitions, such as the one running until July 29th, 2023, which retraces the evolution of the laboratory in photos, and workshops, stories, thematic visits, etc.
The Musée Curie, tucked away from the well-beaten Parisian tourist track, offers a fascinating and moving visit. And it’s less than fifteen minutes on foot from the Hotel Albe Saint-Michel!
